Brain Research Institute Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (BRI-SURE)

Mission: The UCLA Brain Research Institute (BRI) sponsors a summer undergraduate research experience (BRI-SURE) pathway program for students currently participating in the Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) and other honors research programs whose goal is to increase diversity. BRI-SURE Pathway is an 8-10 week, intensive summer research-training program for exceptional students interested in pursuing research careers in Neuroscience or Physiology. The program is designed to provide a rigorous, in-depth research experience to prepare participants for top-quality Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. graduate programs. The BRI-SURE residential program offers a summer stipend. The BRI-SURE non-residential program does not offer a summer stipend

Carnegie Mellon University Summer Program for Undergraduate Researchers (SPUR)

Pittsburgh, PA

Mission: PIER’s SPUR program allows talented undergraduates to spend 8 weeks during the summer in a research laboratory at Carnegie Mellon University.  Each student will receive a fellowship stipend of $3,000 and apartment-style housing will be provided. Guidance and supervision of the research project will be provided by a faculty member as well as, in some cases, a postdoctoral fellow and/or advanced graduate student.  Admitted students will also participate in the Go Research! Summer Program at CMU.  A Summer Seminar Series is provided for all students to help prepare for graduate education and research careers.

Duke University Summer Research Experience (REU): Lifespan Approaches to Diverse Psychological Science

Duke University

Mission: The Duke Psychology and Neuroscience REU provides underrepresented students with the skills, socialization, connection, and continuity to begin developing a scholar-researcher identity. This REU offers a unique research experience using a combination of methodological approaches across the life-span and across areas of psychology: Developmental, Social, and Cognitive Neuroscience. During this REU, students will get hands-on experience conducting experimental and observational research in addition to individually-tailored academic writing and GRE preparation sessions. A program goal is to enhance undergraduates’ future applications to graduate school in psychology or a related field.

GW Canine Cognition Collaborative

Mission: We are a comparative psychology research group that explores the evolution of cognition. We do this by comparing the cognitive abilities of humans to non-humans – specifically dogs. This is because dogs and humans share some rudimentary cognitive abilities that may be the result of our shared environment.

Irving Summer Institute in Neuroscience Program 

UC Irvine

Mission: The Irvine Interdisciplinary Internship in Neuroscience program will provide an intensive research training and professional development experience for undergraduates interested in interdisciplinary neuroscience research. The program is open to undergraduates of all backgrounds with a particular emphasis on women and individuals from under-represented backgrounds in STEM disciplines. The research focus is to understand the neurobiological mechanisms of learning and memory in healthy normal development as well as the biology of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders that alter learning and memory. Johns Hopkins Lab for Child Development

Mission: Summer interns participate fully in all aspects of research, including recruiting participants, testing infants and children in behavioral tasks, coding and analyzing data, and interpreting and presenting results. Interns also participate in guided readings of developmental literature, and attend laboratory meetings where we discuss ongoing projects or current issues in the field of cognitive development. Students will work primarily in the Psychological & Brain Sciences building of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and may also work at our testing site at the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

Kurtz Psychology

Mission: Kurtz Psychology hosts a limited number of undergraduates for unpaid summer internships. This internship is designed primarily for advanced undergraduates as a pre-professional mental health training experience in research and clinical behavioral interventions. Interns participate in our didactic trainings and seminars. Interns are assigned a mentor and will assist with a research project to be worked on during the summer. Interns also are actively involved as counselors in our flagship selective mutism program – Mighty Mouth Kids Camp, as well as being heavily involved in the day-to-day work of our practice. Interns will routinely be able to observe live treatment sessions of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).

The University aims to bring students to LRDC who embody the diversity of our nation, region, and city. LRDC interns would gain experience in the Learning Sciences (research on instruction and learning) by working on a project with a faculty member who specializes in this area. Mission: PREP provides intensive mentoring and experience in scientific research and professional development to undergraduates from historically underrepresented populations who have expressed and demonstrated an interest in a career in scientific psychology. PREP is unique in that we have a focus on integrating principles and methods of data science into the study of psychology and neuroscience. Undergraduate Summer Internship Pace University

Mission: The Counseling Center at Pace University's New York City campus offers four undergraduate psychology summer internship positions each year. The goal of the training program is to provide summer interns with the opportunity to experience, under supervision, the diverse functions of a professional psychologist in a university counseling center.
